Ingredientes
500gr de goma seca/ farinha de mandioca << polvilho
2 gemas
100 ml de leite de coco
200 g de açúcar
Sal a gosto

Preparo
Coloque todos os ingredientes em uma tigela e com as mãos misture bem a massa até que a mesma desgrude das mãos.

Faça bolinhas e coloque em uma forma grande untada com leite de coco. Leve ao forno médio por 10 minutos ou até dourar.

Why the French are better parents - The Interview - Macleans.ca

Pamela Druckerman is an American journalist living in Paris with her husband and three young children. Her new book, Bringing Up Bébé: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting, was released this month.

Q: Isn’t “French parenting” a paradox in that there’s no “French parenting” philosophy?

A: Exactly. French parents don’t think that they’re doing anything special because they’re all doing more or less the same thing. And it’s a balance between what North Americans view as old-school parenting where parents have a lot of authority, and a much more modern form of parenting where they speak to children and listen to them but don’t feel they must do everything children say. No one part of your life—not work, not being a parent, not being a spouse—should overwhelm the other parts.

Q: And that begins with a far more relaxed approach to pregnancy?

A: Deﬁnitely. When I found out I was pregnant, I was delighted but anxious. American books and websites all warned me about the most minute risks—like getting a manicure. In France, the emphasis is on enjoying your pregnancy. French women are a lot less panicked about whether cheese is pasteurized or not. The attitude isn’t that every bite of food you take is going to determine whether your child is accepted to Harvard Law School.

Q: There also seems to be far less moral judgment surrounding how women give birth or whether they breastfeed.

A: Yes, they don’t even call it “natural” childbirth here, they call it accouchement sans péridurale: giving birth without an epidural. And there is almost no social pressure in France to breastfeed for more than two or three months. What does convince French women to breastfeed is if they enjoy it.

Q: What about co-sleeping?

A: The levels are very, very low. That explains why French babies sleep through the night at such a young age.

Q: You’ve coined “the Pause” to describe that. How does it work?

A: It’s this idea that when a baby cries at night, parents shouldn’t rush in and pick him up; they should watch and wait. They’re listening to see whether the baby might learn to connect his two-hour sleep cycles on his own, because once he learns to do that he can sleep four hours, then six hours, then eight hours. Parents are also waiting because infants are noisy sleepers; by rushing in to pick him up they wake him. The idea is that even a tiny baby is a rational person who can learn. Most French parents tell me that this takes two or three months.

Q: Delaying gratiﬁcation to teach self-control and patience is common, isn’t it?

A: Yes, a good example is that French children don’t snack, they wait between meals. There’s one ofﬁcial snack time at 4 p.m. called le goûter. And that helps explain why at meal-times French children eat their vegetables, because they’re actually hungry.

Q: But you also write that babies are taught to enjoy ﬂavourful, not bland, food.

A: When my daughter was six months old, I looked for rice cereal and I couldn’t ﬁnd it because babies start out eating puréed carrots and leeks. Parents see it as their job to educate their children in the pleasure of tasting different ﬂavours from an early age. There are no “kids’ foods”; kids eat what adults eat.

Q: You write about amazing gourmet meals served at your daughter’s state-funded daycare, or crèche.

A: When I told my mother that I was sending my daughter to a state-run daycare she was shocked. To make her feel better, I used to email the menus, which look like menus from French bistros. Two-year-old kids eat blue cheese and braised endives with gusto, and talked about the food. That’s a big part of the French secret: to engage kids with preparation of food, and discussing food. The main principle is you don’t have to eat it all, you just have to taste it. The French genius is that they hone in on one or two things that really do work, like the tasting principle, and they don’t change lanes if it’s not going well.

Q: What aspect of French parenting is difficult for North Americans to wrap their heads around?

A: French experts say it’s important to be authoritative but not authoritarian. French parents know how to say non, and mean it in a way I have trouble doing. North American parents are afraid of damaging kids by limiting them, and they’re not sure where limits should be. The French are very strict about a few key things but they actually give kids quite a lot of freedom.

Q: So much is subtle, like les gros yeux, or big eyes. Could you describe that?

A: It’s this look that French parents give their children when they’re misbehaving. They use it—and this is critical—rarely, but when the kids get the big eyes they tend to stop.

Q: French children also have to say “bonjour” to adults. Why?

A: A child is obliged to say hello to an adult; it’s making the child a person. Parents say that this forces a child to acknowledge that there are other people in the world with needs.

Q: The result appears to be households that are eerily calm and civilized.

A: French children can get just as loud and boisterous as kids in America. But the big difference is that when American parents come to my house, they’re constantly engaged with their children resolving spats, or getting down on the ﬂoor and playing Lego. We never finish a conversation, certainly not a cup of coffee. When French families come over, the kids go off and play by themselves and we adults have coffee. If the kids burst in and start jumping on the couch, we tell them to stop, and they stop. American parents don’t expect kids to be able to control themselves. The French view is that kids will take as much territory as you give them, so you have to set limits. One of those for a lot of French parents is, “You’re not allowed to come into my room on a weekend until I get up. You can play nicely in your room until then.”

Q: Your book has a great scene at a Paris playground. Could you describe it?

A: Most mothers were sitting on benches around the perimeter watching their kids on trampolines, except for this one mom who had pulled a chair up close and was shouting, “Whee!” each time her child jumped. I knew she was American. There’s this belief in America that we must always stimulate our kids and reinforce their self-esteem. The French say “bravo” to their kids when they’ve done something well, but children are given freedom to play by themselves, and to cope with frustration and boredom.

Q: But isn’t that also about mothers asserting their autonomy?

A: Yes, when they have windows of opportunity to relax, they take them. They’re also strict about bedtime; they tend not to have two-hour goodnights where kids say, “Can you read me one more story or I’ll throw a tantrum?” They have evenings to themselves. It’s also common for French parents to send six-year-old children off during the summer to a colonie de vacance. They think if a mother’s whole life is devoted to the care of her child, it’s not good for the child and it’s not good for the mother.

Q: You write that the artiﬁcial concept of “date night” is alien in France.

A: Yes, when the movie Date Night opened here, they called it Crazy Night. At the beginning, there’s a scene where the kids come in and jump on the parents’ bed to wake them; a French reviewer described “these horrible children.” So many of the things that I kind of thought were normal and natural, for the French they seem strange. This idea that kids would be picky eaters who will eat nothing but pasta or chocolate Santas just doesn’t exist in France. Parents would never allow it.

Q: MILFs, or the “yummy mummy,” also doesn’t exist, you write. French women are expected to be sexual post-baby.The state even funds post-partum lessons for vaginal health. Was that a surprise?

A: I was shocked. I had no idea that the French state was so concerned about my perineum!

Q: But there’s also pressure to get back into shape.

A: Three months seems to be the magic number to get your pre-baby body back. You could see that pressure as negative, but it does help you ﬁt back into your skinny jeans. And it’s not just about getting your body back, it’s about getting your pre-baby identity back, and that’s often from going back to work. It’s uncommon for French professional women to become full-time stay-at-home moms. Most women feel it’s much more balanced for the family if women are earning money as well.

Q: Can the French model work without similar state support?

A: The French take very seriously the idea that for mothers to work they need available, affordable child care. That’s critical. But I don’t think that these institutions are necessary to [teach] kids how to eat well and sleep well and to wait. It helps that everyone follows the same formula in France. When everyone around you has a different parenting philosophy, it can make you self-doubting.

Q: Isn’t there now heated debate in France over parenting, with writers like Elizabeth Badinter lamenting pressure to be a North-American-style “good mother”?

A: It’s encroaching a bit. But it seems French women see the train of guilt encroaching, and they’re trying to hold it off. The French would be shocked if they came to North America and saw how far things can go.

@jufraza Did you listen to him at all? It tailors the results to that, and to your location, your type of computer, EVERYTHING about you, personally. Even if "clear history" worked (it doesn't) you will get dramatically different results.

Firefox has plugins to deal with all of these issues, LSO's are one of the big problems, as they collect a boatload of info - so use the 'betterprivacy' plugin
'NoScript' will allow to block many things such as 'google-analytics', or entire websites like msn.com / facebook, etc or just parts of them. (ie: you have total granular control!)
'trueblock' blocks all adverts.
ixquick is an anon search engine that can use google, but won't track you.

@stevegoff420 Do you really think that sites like Google and FB intentionally attempt to keep consumers of media "in the dark" to keep us ignorant? They wrote that code for convenience to the consumer, for us! People like to read what they find pleasurable, even if sometimes it's not healthy for them, and sites like Google just try to be good distributors and listen to the customer. It's a temporary lapse of journalistic responsibility at the worst.

Old Age Security explained
OTTAWA — The future of Canada's public pension system is suddenly the hottest political issue on Parliament Hill. So what's on the table for reform, what's known about the changes that might happen and how might it affect you?

Here's a primer on what you should know:

Q. What is Old Age Security?

A. OAS is the centrepiece of the country's public pension system, funded entirely by government revenues. It's available to any Canadian citizen or permanent resident who has lived in the county for at least 10 years. People qualify at age 65. The maximum payment is $540.12 a month for seniors with less than $69,562 in annual net income. The payment is gradually clawed back for those above that income threshold, until it disappears for those earning more than $112,772.

Q. What's the problem?

A. Baby boomers are heading toward retirement, and there will be fewer Canadians in the workforce to pay taxes to government. Without change, says the government, OAS will balloon in size and cost — from 4.7 million recipients (costing $36.5 billion) in 2010 to 9.3 million people (costing $108 billion) in 2030.

Q. What's the government plan?

A. Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he will make changes to the pension system to ensure its "future sustainability for the next generation while not affecting current recipients." The government is tight-lipped on specifics, but pledges an "adjustment period" so reforms don't hurt Canadians "close to retirement."

Q. What are the options?

A. There are no final decisions, but the government is examining changing the age of OAS qualification — to 67 from 65. Conceivably, it could also remove inflation protection to OAS benefits, or lower the income threshold at which benefits are clawed back from people.

Q. What do opposition parties say?

A. They have pounced on the issue, promising to protect pensioners and blasting the Tories for not mentioning this plan in last year's election.

Q. How could this affect you?

A. It depends on what your annual income is and how close to retirement you are. If you have a high income, OAS benefits probably wouldn't factor into your retirement plans anyway. If you are much younger and earn an average income, expect to get less by the time you retire.

Q. Will this affect the Canada Pension Plan?

A. No. It is a separate fund, available to Canadians who were in the workplace. It is actuarially sound and won't be touched.

Q. What about the pooled pension plan?

A. This is a separate scheme planned by the government to persuade people to prepare for retirement. Small businesses that want to offer pensions for employees can have a regulated financial institution oversee the plan. It won't be mandatory for businesses to participate and the government will not contribute. If a plan exists, employees will be automatically enrolled for payroll deductions but can opt out.

Q. What about the Guaranteed Income Supplement?

A. This is paid to seniors who make less than $16,368, with a maximum monthly benefit of $732.36 per month. There is no indication if that will change. If the government increases eligibility to 67 from 65, provinces will complain that leaves more poor seniors on their welfare rolls for an extra two years.

Q. Will pensions for bureaucrats and politicians be changed?

A. No decisions yet, but if OAS is changed, it's likely public servants and MPs will see changes to their pension plans.

Effective studying materials of the Russian language learning

We worked out the statistical apparatus, and on its base the program software was developed taking into account phrases and words forming in the English language.

Due to interesting in the spoken language, as materials for statistical analysis we chose subtitles for Hollywood movies that became leaders’ distribution.

The main reasons to choose:

1. Pictures’ directors and scenarists try to provoke the spectators’ illusion that happening on the screen is real. The most incredible events even take place in a film.

2. In order to make a movie popular, it is necessary that its heroes speak clearly and closely for spectators.

3. The cinema relates to the pop-culture, has the largest audience and influences on the common public culture very much, including the language culture. Very often phrases from movies become “winged words” and are used in a spoken language.

4. The cinema relates to the entertainment sphere that contributes a positive mood, and as a result, increasing of effectiveness to remember the learning data.

During the developing process of a computer system in order to analyze movies subtitles, the question on necessary and sufficient quantity of subtitles to build frequency dictionaries of words and phrases was emerged.

To solve this question, we began to add subtitles from different movies by turns. Every time we analyzed changes in an obtained dictionary. At the beginning, the words list ceased to change in the dictionary. The words form 50% of the text for all the analyzed subtitles, then 55%, 60% and so on. The changes’ termination served for us as a signal, that this part of the dictionary was full. The supplement of new subtitles does not influence on its content.

As a result, we received the frequency English dictionaries of words and phrases well-ordered on the frequency of occurrence in films.

Almost every word has more than one variant of translation into Russian. To understand, which variants of the words translation are most used in movies, we analyzed a core of sentences contained these words. It means that our dictionaries hold not only lists of words and phrases, but also their translation organized the same way, i.e. the frequency principle.

That principle to give materials lets progress very quickly, because the most significant words are learned the first.

Effective learning ways

Learning and forgetting are antonyms and closely inter-related. In 1885 the German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus managed to form the forgetting curve on the base of numerous experiments.

The Ebbinghaus experiments showed the process of forgetting begins after information coming, and for a very short time period a human being loses the most part of it. That’s why it is necessary to repeat information after its receiving. If during repeating, the learned materials are successively recalled, the interval to the next brush-up can be increased and so on.

The idea of varying slots depending on the answer appropriateness is realized in the training file method in the best way. The core of the training file method is very simple. At first, the box with five sections and the paper cards set are prepared, the size of which card is similar to the playing card. The received cards set is placed in the first box division.

The brush-up process starts when the first card is taken out of the first box section. The user looks at the right side and tries to remember what is written on the reverse side. If an attempt is successful, the card is replaced in the second box division. If not, the card is located in the end of the cards stack. When the second section is filled up, the user needs to repeat cards from it, and so on, until all the cards are passed through the five box sections. With the correct answer the fifth division cards are deleted from the training file. As a result, the cards are learned worse, will be repeated more often, but the cards which are easy to remember leave the training file. This method economizes the time, because it has not to repeat the cards already remained in the memory.

The training file method is time-proved and even admitted the most effective in order to remember large volumes of foreign words and phrases by the unique person as Wilfred Possin, the world champion in the learning field, listed in the Guinness World Records.

In particular, this method is underlined in our computer system of the foreign languages learning. We adopted it to our tasks. The cards never leave the training file. They are only shown more seldom with the correct answer. If you make a mistake, the cards are returned to the first box division. This improvement lets not only learn new material, but also repeat passed on, looking for forgetting. So, our computer system became also the support system of the passed material.

Effective process of the Russian learning and system support for the learned material

We suppose that effective learning process should be flexible, have an opportunity to adapt its own needs, be simple and convenient, not to require significant additional costs for time and efforts in order to meet and manage it. All these possibilities are realized in our computer system of the Russian learning.

Due to this assistance it is easy to learn not only words and phrases, but also idioms, phrasal verbs, slang, grammar rules and others. We took and analyzed all this material only from Hollywood pictures, and we formed on the frequency principle. The each subject is located in a separate English-Russian Dictionary, which you can add to the system in order to make a library (data base for learning). Besides, the user can table the learning process, when and how the dictionaries will be changed, which side of cards will be shown the first, and on which subject will be worth to pay more attention.

That flexibility lets use the system for all comers, regardless of the foreign language level. Beginners will lay the emphasis on words and phrases, intermediate users can repeat their knowledge. Due to the improved algorithm of a training card advanced students are capable to support their knowledge in the ideal way not to spent more time and efforts. It is necessary to add that the support system of the learned data is the most key principle of our product. We advise you not to expel already learned dictionaries from your learning process, but just to decrease the frequency of using them. To end trainings, if you are even absolutely sure that you learned all material, is not necessary. You can reduce the time training till 15-20 minutes per day. It will be enough to keep your learning level.

The flexibility of our Russian learning system combines simplicity and convenience. To manage the whole system and its configuration is possible to use some keys. The user can receive a feedback in the Results Window where the user’s progress is appeared, i.e. a quantity of the learned material. Some dictionaries have audio in Russian that lets get an idea about the pronunciation of one or another word and phrase.

Um texto cheio de recordações onde vai se descortinando uma personagem forte...

Serve para quem está chegando aos 60, para quem já chegou lá e também para quem já passou por eles.

Queridos
De forma despretensiosa, inscrevi um texto no concurso Prêmios Longevidade Bradesco Histórias de Vida. Estou chegando de São Paulo, onde fui participar da premiação (dia 06.10.2011).

Mandaram um motorista me buscar e me trazer e fiquei num super-hotel nos Jardins, acompanhada de meu príncipe consorte rsrsrs.

Entre quase 200 concorrentes, conquistei o 3.º lugar, com direito a troféu e diploma. Mas sinto como se tivesse recebido o Oscar, pois os primeiros colocados eram jovens que trabalharam por alguns anos para escrever histórias que mereciam ser contadas. Meu texto foi o único produzido pela própria protagonista.

O tema central era o relacionamento intergeracional. Quase caí da cadeira quando Nicete Bruno, Presidente de Honra do Juri me perguntou: "Você é a Regina? Queria muito conhecê-la. Adorei seu texto!!". Tive, ainda, o privilégio de ser fotografada ao lado da convidada especial, Shirley MacLaine.

É muita emoção, que gostaria de compartilhar com vocês.

DE REPENTE... 60

(ou 2 x 30)

Ao completar 60 anos, lembrei do filme “De repente 30” , em que a adolescente, em seu aniversário, e ansiosa por chegar logo à idade adulta, formula um desejo e se vê repentinamente com 30 anos, sem saber o que aconteceu nesse intervalo.

Meu sentimento é semelhante ao dela: perplexidade.
Pergunto a mim mesma: onde foram parar todos esses anos?

Ainda sou aquela menina assustada que entrou pela primeira vez na escola, aquela filha desesperada pela perda precoce da mãe; ainda sou aquela professorinha ingênua que enfrentou a sua primeira turma, aquela virgem sonhadora que entrou na igreja vestida de branco, para um casamento que durou tão pouco! Ainda sou aquela mãe aflita com a primeira febre do filho que hoje tem mais de 30 anos.

Acho que é por isso que engordei, para caber tanta gente, é preciso espaço!

Passei batido pela tal crise dos 30, pois estava ocupada demais lutando pela sobrevivência.

Os 40 foram festejados com um baile, enquanto eu ansiava pela aposentadoria na carreira do magistério, que aconteceu 4 anos depois.

Os 50 me encontraram construindo uma nova vida, numa nova cidade, num novo posto de trabalho.

Agora, aos 60, me pergunto onde está a velhinha que eu esperava ser nesta idade e onde se escondeu a jovem que me olhava do espelho todas as manhãs...

Tive o privilégio de viver uma época de profundas e rápidas transformações em todas as áreas: de Elvis Presley e Sinatra a Michael Jackson, de Beatles e Rolling Stones a Madonna, de Chico e Caetano a Cazuza e Ana Carolina; dos anos de chumbo da ditadura militar às passeatas pelas diretas e empeachment do presidente a um novo país misto de decepções e esperanças; da invenção da pílula e da liberação sexual ao bebê de proveta e ao pesadelo da AIDS. Testemunhei a conquista dos 5 títulos mundiais do futebol brasileiro (e alguns vexames históricos).

Nasci no ano em que a televisão chegou ao Brasil, mas minha família só conseguiu comprar um aparelho usado 10 anos depois e, por meio de suas transmissões, vi a chegada do homem à lua, a queda do muro de Berlim e algumas guerras modernas.

Passei por 3 reformas ortográficas e tive de aprender a nova linguagem do computador e da internet. Aprendi tanto que foi por meio desta que conheci, aos 52 anos, o meu companheiro, com quem tenho, desde então, compartilhado as aventuras do viver.

Não me sinto diferente do que era há alguns anos, continuo tendo sonhos, projetos, faço minhas caminhadas matinais com meu cachorro Kaká, pratico ioga, me alimento e durmo bem (apesar das constantes visitas noturnas ao banheiro), gosto de cinema, música, leio muito, viajo para os lugares que um dia sonhei conhecer.

Por 2 anos não exerci qualquer atividade profissional, mas voltei a orientar trabalhos acadêmicos e a ministrar algumas disciplinas em turmas de pós-graduação, o que me fez rejuvenescer em contato com os alunos, que têm se beneficiado da minha experiência e com quem tenho aprendido muito mais que ensinado.

Só agora comecei a precisar de óculos para perto (para longe já uso há muitos anos) e não tinjo os cabelos, pois os brancos são tão poucos que nem se percebem (privilégio que herdei de meu pai, que só começou a ficar grisalho após os 70 anos).

Há marcas do tempo, claro, e não somente rugas e os quilos a mais, mas também cicatrizes, testemunhas de algumas aprendizagens: a do apêndice me traz recordações do aniversário de 9 anos passado no hospital; a da cesárea marca a minha iniciação como mãe e a mais recente, do câncer de mama (felizmente curado), me lembra diariamente que a vida nos traz surpresas nem sempre agradáveis e que não tenho tempo a perder.

A capacidade de fazer várias coisas ao mesmo tempo diminuiu, lembro de coisas que aconteceram há mais de 50 anos e esqueço as panelas no fogo. Aliás, a memória (ou a falta dela) merece um capítulo à parte: constantemente procuro determinada palavra ou quero lembrar o nome de alguém e começa a brincadeira do esconde-esconde.

Tento fórmulas mnemônicas, recito o alfabeto mentalmente e nada! De repente, quando a conversa já mudou de rumo ou o interlocutor já se foi, eis que surge o nome ou palavra, como que zombando de mim... Mas, do que é que eu estava falando mesmo?

Ah, sim, dos meus 60 anos.

Claro que existem vantagens: pagar meia-entrada (idosos, crianças e estudantes têm essa prerrogativa, talvez porque não são considerados pessoas inteiras), atendimento prioritário em filas exclusivas, sentar sem culpa nos bancos reservados do metrô e a TPM passou a significar “Tranquilidade Pós-Menopausa”.

Certamente o saldo é positivo, com muitas dúvidas e apenas uma certeza: tenho mais passado que futuro e vivo o presente intensamente, em minha nova condição de mulher muito sex...agenária.

The Adventure of English: 500 A.D. to 2000 A.D. is an 8-part series with content as expansive as its title. Each program conveys an immense amount of information, tracing the development of the English language from its isolated, struggling beginnings as an obscure tribal dialect to the global language it is today. In studying the language, the series also examines a remarkable amount of history. Each episode is thematic, and the series moves primarily in chronological order. While the discussions often focus on Europe, attention is also drawn towards America, Africa, Australia, India, and the Caribbean.

The vocabulary and phraseology of the English language as it has been spoken and written is demonstrated through poetry, prose, drama, lyrics, letters, and dictionaries, while examining both common and official communication. Each program focuses on various forces pushing the development and spread of the English language to become the most understood language in the world, including the effects of invading languages, immigration to or colonization of new lands, war, and cultural elements such as religion, literature, economics, and film.

All programs exhibit on location taping that is filled with great points of reference and historic sites, and often nicely interspersed with high quality dramatizations. The illustrative examples of text, spoken word, and locality are carefully crafted to keep viewers interested. Written and presented by Melvin Bragg, the series conveys this wealth of information with a scholarly, yet somewhat informal approach. Bragg is well known as a television presenter, novelist and broadcaster. He is currently Controller of Arts and Features at London Weekend Television and editor and presenter of The South Bank Show.

The series has not been widely reviewed, but the companion book has received mixed comments. While the overall content and Bragg’s style of presentation are consistently praised, critics have also found flaws in some of the research and generalizations or simplifications sometimes included. An example of such criticism follows:

”Bragg's enthusiasm for his subject-hero [English], whether the Old English of Beowulf or the new "Text English" of the Internet, makes up for his shortcomings as a linguist: his sources, unfootnoted, are at times at variance with the OED or Webster's Third. For instance, Bragg furnishes only one putative origin for the disputed "real McCoy." Moreover "candy" does not seem to have Anglo-Indian origins (it's from the Arabic "qandi"), and the first recorded use of "vast" is not from Shakespeare (the OED cites Archbishop Edwin Sandys).” [Publishers Weekly 251 no14 52 Ap 5 2004]

While I am not an expert in linguistics and would not have caught the discrepancies mentioned in some of the companion book’s reviews, there are a couple of minor issues that I will note. The presenter at times uses perhaps too many examples, running on through many words that aren’t always recognizable or meaningful to the viewer. Also, there is the occasional profanity to be examined. While this is entirely appropriate given the scope of the series, it might be something to be aware of if using the programs in schools. That said, it should be stressed that the wide ranging content provides an abundance of information on many subjects beyond the English language.

This will be a carefully considered purchase for most libraries at $929.95 for the entire series, but each title can be purchased separately for $129.95. The series is appropriate for high school, academic, and public libraries. The series could support a wide variety of academic subjects including history, linguistics, communication, literature, social/cultural issues and the study of various geographic areas.
