Labour Day BBQ with serious message - 660News
There was some food for thought at Olympic Plaza on Monday.
The Calgary and District Labour Council organized a Labour Day BBQ to raise awareness about struggling workers in the province.
Labour Council President Alexander Shevalier said although Alberta's unemployment rate is the lowest in the country, it does not factor in those who have no benefits or wish they could work more hours.
"So you can be working ten hours a week and you're considered employed," he said. "We need to look at the underemployment statistics."
The unemployed and underemployed population includes single parents, the working poor, children, seniors, people with disabilities, recent immigrants, and others.
